New York Fashion Week, Sept. 8-15, is back in the city with no shortage of sizzling style. Events are being held now at Skylight at Moynihan Station and Skylight Clarkson Square. Sponsors include Maybelline New York and TreSemmé, amongst others. Here’s a peek into what’s trending now: As a nod to individual beauty, Redken Global Creative Director Guido capitalized on each models’ individual hair texture at Kanye West’s SS 2017 Show. “We’ve got 250 models here at the Kanye West show. All are African American, so we’ve got lots of textured hair to play with. We’re really enhancing all the girls’ natural texture and we’re using Redken’s new Curvaceous line for each look, in different capacities. We’ve prepped the hair by shampooing it, then following up by using conditioner and styling products. So really what we’re seeing is embracing this natural curl that many of these girls have. Although it’s such a large group, each with their own unique style, the general theme would be embracing natural texture. When talking about natural texture, whether that be on African Americans or anyone who’s got wild curls, what we’re looking for is a great shape in your hair. The ideal cut will allow you to let those curls really come out and you’ll feel more comfortable in letting your hair dry naturally. I think women sometimes get a little bit uncomfortable because they think it looks messy. But if hair is well shaped, then the style has a good foundation,” said Guido. The Brock Spring/Summer 2017 collection was inspired by the “calmness of the desert with a sense of romanticism.” To complement the designer's idea, Jin Soon Choi chose Auspicious, a muddled lavender grey, to highlight the weathered aesthetic, allowing the nails to seamlessly blend into the overall feel of the collection. The makeup and hair trend reports for the Hellessy SS17 Show at New York Fashion Week at Pier 59 Studios revealed that Aveda Global Artistic Director of Makeup Janell Geason creates a quietly cool “Golden Eye” look with metallic touches. And Aveda Artist Jon Reyman, “made waves” with messy-neat French girl hair. According to Diane Kendal for Nars Cosmetics, “Thakoon really wanted the girls to look healthy, confident, optimistic. It's the return to the American beauty – really looking to that Peter Lindbergh iconic New York mood. The look is inspired by the late 80's American glamour girls like Cindy, Christie, Linda, and Tatjana Patitz. Skin is gorgeous, makeup is fresh and beautifully groomed, with a hint of glamour.” Counterbalance was the inspiration behind Marissa Webb’s Spring/Summer 2017 Collection. It’s ornate without being fussy; there's an edge to it but still something that can be pulled off with ease. This concept translates into the hair, makeup and nail looks this season. TreSemmé Stylist Jeanie Syfu was inspired to create two hair looks that are all about making an impression while still feeling like something you can do yourself. “The overall collection embodies an urban modern girl, with a laid back feel- it’s all about achievable drama,” said Webb in a media statement. Drawing inspiration from Michael Costello’s Spring 2017 runway collection, which was influenced by the relationship between the light and dark side of femininity, Rita Remark for Essie created a design that drew on the hybrid of darkness and light. Taking a cue from the gold and açaí fabrics from the collection, she chose two colors, Essie’s deep Sole Mate and metallic Good as Gold to luxuriously illustrate this contrast. Macadamia Professional international creative director and celebrity stylist Giannandrea kicked off NYFW with a showstopping high pony at Nicholas K SS ’17. Wet hair was prepped with Macadamia Professional Blow Dry Lotion throughout the lengths to smooth and protect hair from heat styling. Referencing the spirit of travel and the carefree essence of summer, the Desigual woman is truly an individual. Confident in herself, she wears her hair in her own unique style. Lived in and textured, it's still romantic and luxurious. Short hair has a rich texture achieved with Redken Fashion Waves and a GHD Curve Creative Curl Wand. And, as previously reported in Happi, Maybelline launched an exclusive collection online with Amazon following the Rebecca Minkoff show.
